Panel discussion

"The Transition To Compositing"

Join noted compositors SARI GENNIS, CHRIS SIMMONS, GREG TEEGARDEN and others in a wide-ranging discussion of compositing, and how it has served as a transition craft for traditional animation artists making their way into the worlds of 3D and visual effects.

Inactive members (suspended or withdrawn) may attend; they have voice but no vote in the meeting. Non-members should check in with the Sergeant-At-Arms; they may participate in the panel but not in the meeting.

More Walt (Unicode)

Earlier this week, Walt Peregoy had a show opening at 14242 Ventura Boulevard in Sherman Oaks. ...

There was a nice turnout and a fine array of Mr. Peregoy's work (some of which can be seen in the slide show above, including a photo of Walt P. with his nephew Steve Peregoy.) If you have a chance to pop by and see the paintings, do so. They're up through February 27th.

Ken Muse test post

Our first Megacollector post for 2011 starts off with a Fantasia model sheet by Fred Moore. The other images are by Ken Muse (1910-1987).

Muse started his professional career as an assistant on Fantasia, then graduated to animator on several Mickey shorts. He left Disney after the 1941 strike and signed on at MGM, where he spent seventeen years in the Hanna-Barbera unit, working on over one hundred and twenty shorts.

After MGM closed he followed his mentors to the new Hanna-Barbera studio, where he animated the pilot episode of a new show called "The Flagstones," and eventually worked on pretty much every show at the studio until he retired. (Little known fact: late in his life he did some uncredited assisting on The Fox and the Hound.

Here's the best-known piece of Ken Muse animation, the Gene Kelly-Jerry Mouse sequence from Anchors Aweigh (1945):
